Here are some of the OSCEs asked in previous Primary FCARCSI exams.

 

1) Clinical case: Anaesthetic implications on obese patient : discuss with the examiner preanaesthetic, aneasthetic and post op implications.

 

2) Communication: Pt had awareness in the previous anaesthetic, she is going for some surgery now, address her concerns and reassure her.

 

3) Communication: Pt for knee surgery, worried about about analgesia, discuss different methods of anaesthesia you can offer to the pt and also various modes of post op analgesia.

 

4) Resuscitation: 50 yr old man diabetic, on insulin infusion found unconscious in the ward, u have been called to  see the patient. ( REMEMBER though this is scenario in the hospital set up still you are expected to start with BLS and then u will be lead to ALS by the examiner.)

 

5) Equipment:   Pictures of VIE, pressure regulator, top of the N2O cylinder with TP ( test pressure) and other things imprinted  and asked questions on each of them. ( no examiner in this station). Pictures are straight from Alshaik.

 6) ECG: 2 ECGs ,          1.  Inferior MI and questions on clinical features and treatment

            2.        WPW syndrome and questions. ( No examiner )

 

7)   CXR: 2 CXRs 1. Normal CXR with some points marked on it ,u have to identify them.

                               2. Rt upper lobe collapse and questions .( No examiner)

 

8) Investigations: Vitalograph trace and also values of FEV1 and FVC are given. Questions on them  ( pretty straighward questions but there are lot of questions to answer in 5 mins.This is true for most of the stations where u have to write down answers. Need to be very quick in answering questions)

 

9)Airway assessment: actor sitting , you have to demonstrate as u talk through what you are looking for. Then you will be given a scenario of failed intubation and failed ventilation what would you do , examiner will take you to cricothyroidotomy straight away and will ask you to describe how you do it and how do you connect the cannula to breathing system.)

 

10)    Biers block: 10 questons asked on biers block. ( No examiner)

After how long would wait after the LA injection before removing tourniquet.

 

11) Statistics: 2 sets of data given and asked straight forward questions like mean median , mode etc.( no examiner).

 

12) JVP: Mannikin , asked to show how u measure jvp. Waves in jvp , causes of cannon a waves , what is hepatojugular reflex, etc.
